Best Buddies Prom

I organized a Best Buddies Prom for the Best Buddies club at Southern Utah University. Best Buddies is an international organization to promote inclusion of people with intellectual or developmental disabilities by creating one-to-one friendships with college kids (in our case). I organized a prom for the members of the club that included dancing, a photo-booth, music, food, pictures, and a slideshow. The slideshow included all of the pictures taken throughout the year. The steps to complete this project included fundraising, reserving a room, inviting the members/buddies, planning a date, ordering/making food, buying or making costumes/props, making decorations, finding a DJ and/or speakers, creating a music playlist, designing/making a picture backdrop, finding a camera, creating slideshow, and assigning roles to volunteers and presidency members. Since this project was quite larger I had my presidency help me accomplish this activity. It was held toward the end of the school year as a last hurrah before summer break begins. My hope is it will be the start of something new at SUU, so that eventually we don’t have to have a club or an activity to promote inclusion and acceptance.
