Take Aways
Lessons learned - I learned a lot about myself and others by completing this project. I learned that I love being in charge of events! As stressful as it was, it was also exhilarating. Hours and hours were spent planning and executing this project. In the end, it was a lot more work than I had first intended but I had lots of help along the way. It was incredible to work for hours and hours on something and then watch it flourish in the end. Everyone enjoyed themselves, even the ones who said it wasn’t “their thing” had fun. It opened my eyes to the idea that in the end, we are all the same. If we stopped and looked around we might realize we are all a whole lot more alike than we thought. Everyone in that room was able to step away from the ideas and judgments of the world and just have fun. That night made me realize it’s not about numbers, it’s all about the people. If I touched one person’s life for the better, numbers never mattered at all.
Future plans - Everything went fairly well at prom. I do wish I would have known exactly how many people were coming so I could better plan food. We ended up having a lot of food left over and wasted money we could have used for this year. We also planned it around finals week because we wanted it to be the last activity of the year. This caused a lot of added stress on top of trying to plan this event. I wish I would have planned it a different week so that I could have better prepared and had more time. I did not realize how many components went into planning and executing an event like this. It definitely put into perspective how big of a team is necessary to successfully put an event like this on.
